Metamorphosis: the gear.

I thought I’d talk a little bit about “the gear”.

I had purchased the program through a Gilt sale, so I got not only the DVDs and program info, I also got the exercise mat and 3 lbs weights all in one (discounted) package. Which is great, since they’ve all proven to be necessary. The red thing on the side there is my gardener’s kneepad (maybe $10 from Target?) for the exercises that have me on one knee. I also got a few other Tracy Anderson DVDs in the past from a Gilt sale, so I totally recommend signing up if you want to keep a look out for a deal on her products. They’re not cheap! Of course, you can also order it from Tracy’s website. To bring the price of it into perspective (maybe), you are getting 10 different work-outs. So figure out how much 10 regular exercise DVDs would cost and it’s probably comparable.

The program has another introductory pamphlet not shown here, but what’s shown are the most important day-to-day things:

To the right of the hand weights is the Workout Tracker. Every day, you check off that you did both the cardio and the transform DVDs (or either one or none, if you didn’t). There’s also a line to put in your weight every day. (If you’re opposed to daily weigh-ins, I’m sure you can just fill that in every 10 or 30 days or whatever.) The Tracker is also handy because it shows you when it’s the 7th “rest day” of the week so you don’t have to try to remember, and it tells you when it’s been 10 days (time for a new transform DVD). And it’s easier to remember when it’s 30 days and time to take new pictures. What’s also nice about the Tracker is that you write in the date—so if for some reason you get thrown off schedule for a few days or weeks or what have you, in theory you can just start up where you left off.

On the back of it is where you track your measurements of your bust, arm, waist, hips, and thigh every 10 days. The program comes with a cute little tape measure just for that. I also added my body fat percentage because I have a scale (had to buy a scale! $40) that can do that. It’s not a measurement that is meant to be tracked in this program, but it’s a number I know will change the most for me, and it’s honestly the best benchmark of progress for actual fat loss. I gain muscle easily, so I know that can skew my weight numbers.

Below the hand weights is the Dynamic Eating Plan. I keep that stuck on the fridge, open to the page of meals for my current week. That way I can see at a glance how much of each thing I should eat (generally ranges from 4-10 ounces). And if I’m making something, I can easily see the recipe. So far I’m digging about half the food. The stuff I’m not into, I’m trying to replace with healthy options. You will need a juicer and a food processor. Those were 2 things I was unaware of when I bought the program, so I had to buy them on Amazon (about $160 total for both) before I could start. The first week’s food are all entirely made in the juicer or food processor, so you need those before you start. And since getting a food processor, I’m so into it! I highly recommend one whether doing the program or not. For the first week of food, I spent about $130 at the grocery store.

Last, not certainly not least, beside the kneepad are the DVDs. Included in there is 1 dance cardio DVD (with a video introduction from Tracy, which is nice), and 3 “Transform” DVDs. Each of those 3 DVDs has 3 muscular structure workouts (so, a total of 9), which you alternate every 10 days for 90s days. The nice thing I’m noticing so far is that the 9 transform workouts do not appear to be, like, starting with Beginner and working up to Advanced. They seem to be pretty steady in intensity and working different muscles, so you can likely cycle back through them when done with the program. That’s my plan, anyway!

Sadly, none of this is very cheap. I know cost is something that slowed me down or prevented me from doing programs like this in the past, so I wanted to give a heads up if someone is thinking about this to save up some money!

The breakdown:

  • The program (from her website): $89.97
  • Mat and weights (from her website, likely cheaper on Amazon): about $50
  • Scale: $20-50
  • Juicer and food processor: about $160
  • First week of food: about $130

What’s this about? I’m doing the Tracy Anderson Metamorphosis (Omnicentric) program. Check out the Tracy Anderson tag to read more about my journey.
