I love you guys with every shred of my hard-left leaning heart. But I think you might be doing something wrong. Here is one thing that can help you.

Seriously. polos and khakis. Every time you guys DO finally get some fucking press, it’s a scrawny dude with dreads in a ratty t-shirt. You’re going big here, dress it. Tomorrow, Polo shirt and Khakis.

Why? Because you need to get the right-leaning equivalent of me on your side. I’m 35 right now. I understand where the hippy thing comes from. I get it as well as a guy who’s 35 can. My Counterparts do not. They think you are scummy druggies on welfare and when they see on tv a bunch of people who they think are S.D’s on W, they root for the cops to hit you again.

Speaking of the cops, Who do you think they’ll mace first? SD’s on W, or a guy in khakis and a polo? Seriously, it’s fucking cop camouflage. And if they DO come for you. When people at home see PEOPLE THAT LOOK LIKE THEMgetting abused by police… That’s when shit changes.

Seeing protesters get beat up means nothing because protesters get beat up all the time. Therefore, don’t look like a protester! This connects you to the person watching and opens them to your side!

So for serious. Do it. You’re almost about to tip this thing over. Polos and khakis. Cop Camo + target audience = Shave, shower and polos and khakis.

TL;DR: Polo shirt and Khakis = dress code for nyc protests tomorrow.

Still on the hunt for web projects and/or clients. If you know anyone who needs a website, or some work on a website, or a sweet Flash animation… You know where to find me.

Lately I’ve been trying to hash out an idea for a web project that I can make money with, and less on hunting up clients for whom to make websites. Nothing big in the works, but ideas churning. I’m also working on studying up my HTML/CSS coding skillz, as I’m a bit rusty. It’s all coming back easily, so I’m getting back up on shaky legs. Slow and steady.

I will hopefully be taking a trip to Italy in July. Fingers crossed! I haven’t been making much money for awhile, so it will be tricky to figure it all out. I’m studying up on everything I’ll need to have in place to go. And studying freakin’ Italian. Mi dispiace, non parlo l’italiano! If only I was going somewhere they speak Spanish. I’d probably still sound retarded, but I know more words than Italian.

I feel like a bit of an asshole. I was checking out the list of domains that link to my website through my analytics and webmaster tools stuff. Turns out there are a bunch of cool people linking to me, and I had no idea. So you cats are all linked up from my side now!

Who the hell decided what is “professional”? Who decided that everyone in the working world has to conduct themselves in only that one professional way? You must write your resume like this, you must conduct your job interview like this, you must do this on your first day, you must act like this in front of your employers/associates/clients. You must, above all, never be yourself. Don’t talk like you normally would, don’t conduct yourself the way you feel comfortable, and surely don’t ever have an opinion unless you water it down so as not to step on anyone’s toes. Before you say anything, run it through your political correctness and buzzword jargon filter. Don’t ever say what you really mean to say. It’s like you’re performing a play every day. Here are your lines, this is your role, stay in character.

I certainly don’t think anyone should act and talk like a complete moron. I just hate that everything you do relating to a career has to be done only one way. This is especially bullshit when in a creative field. How is anyone supposed to create art when they’re supposed to be in this one box of behavior and thinking on the job?

An aside – designers, don’t you fucking hate it when someone tells you to “think outside the box”? They never really want you to think outside the box and do something amazing, they want you to think outside the box of good taste by doing it a completely shitty/stupid/outdated way. As soon as a client or employer says “think outside the box”, fucking dump their asses quick as a jackrabbit. Game over. Otherwise, resign yourself to doing something awful and omitting your name from it.

Back to my point, why can’t we speak and act like humans? Why do we have to pad everything with meaningless bullshit? I don’t want to be an automaton, and I have a feeling no one else does either. So why do we all still try to be this way with our careers? It makes no sense! Let’s say “fuck that” to the conventional professionalism bullshit!
